Indonesian flight lost 10,000 feet in less than a minute: Hindi news

Flight SJ182 began to reduce altitude about four minutes after take-off, according to Flightradar24.

New Delhi: The Boeing 737-500 belongs to the Indonesia-based airline, which went missing today as soon as it disappeared to an altitude of 10,000 feet within a minute, according to flight service Flightradar24. The altitude at which the aircraft reached was 10,900 feet, while the last altitude recorded was 250 feet.

Srivijaya Air Plane took off from Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, and headed to Pontianak in West Kalimantan province, local media reported. Flight SJ182 began to reduce altitude just four minutes after takeoff.

The aircraft was operated by Boeing 737-500 "Classic" with registration number PK-CLC (MSN 27323). The first recorded flight of the aircraft was in May 1994, making it 26 years old.

According to FlightRadar 24, the signal from the flight was lost at 07:40:27 coordinated universal time (UTC). It is around 12.40 pm in India.

It was not clear how many passengers and crew were on board the Boeing 737-500 while flying from Sokérno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, although it has a capacity of about 130. The flight time between Jakarta and Pontianak is usually 90 minutes.

In October 2018, about 190 people were killed when a Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX jet slipped into the Java Sea about 12 minutes after take-off from Jakarta on a routine one-hour flight. That accident - and a subsequent fatal flight in Ethiopia - saw Boeing claim with $ 2.5 billion in fines that it defrauded regulators overseeing the 737 MAX model, which had been frozen around the world after two fatal accidents .
